Samuel Case (1791-1820) built his home, by mortise-and-tenon, of beams, elbows and scraps from shipwrecks and abandoned buildings around Shelter Island, NY. He worked the North Atlantic on commercial sailing ships transporting whale-oil and dry-goods between Long Island and Canada. He was lost at sea at the age of 29.
